Keep Your Tooth With Root Canal Therapy

The term “endodontics” refers to treatment of the inside (“endo”) of your teeth (“dontics”). More specifically, endodontic treatment – or root canal therapy – addresses the soft tissue and nerves (or pulp) inside your teeth. Dr. Wallin is highly experienced in root canal treatment. Here are the basic steps of the procedure:

  • Planning – Using our state-of-the-art digital X-rays, Dr. Wallin will assess the degree of damage and precisely locate the decay.
  • Numbing – To ensure your comfort and prevent any mild pain, we will numb the inside of your mouth.
  • Removal of Pulp – Using rotary endodontics instead of the stationary files of the past, Dr. Wallin will carefully and efficiently remove the infected pulp and clean out the inside of your tooth.
  • Filling in the Tooth – To protect your tooth, Dr. Wallin will fill the space where the infected tooth pulp was with a material called gutta-percha.

We will provide instructions to properly care for your repaired tooth following the procedure. For added strength and protection, Dr. Wallin may also recommend a dental crown as a final restoration.

In severe cases where root canal therapy will not work, Dr. Wallin may recommend a tooth extraction and a long-lasting tooth replacement like a dental implant.

Longmont, CO root canals help – they don’t cause you more pain! Call Silver Leaf Dentistry today to schedule an appointment so you can feel better soon: 720-504-2539.

Common Questions About Root Canals

Why have a root canal?

Root canals are necessary when a tooth has become infected. This happens when bacteria reaches the pulp (the soft tissue found on the inside of a tooth). The bacteria can also cause painful inflammation, which can make it difficult to bite and chew and may interfere with your day-to-day activities. By getting a root canal, you can remove the inflamed and infected tissue and rebuild your tooth.

Are root canals painful?

We’re happy to say that most of our root canal patients report no more pain than if they were getting a tooth filled. That’s because we take great care to ensure a comfortable root canal treatment for you. We’ll carefully numb the area we’re working on so that you don’t feel a thing.

What does a root canal do?

When we perform a root canal procedure, it is because the soft inner portion of the tooth (known as the pulp) has become infected. For this procedure, your dentist will access the pulp through the top of the tooth, clean it out, sanitize and shape the root canals, and seal the tooth back. This treatment allows us to save your tooth while stopping your pain.
