You may think of a dental checkup as something to just get through twice a year. You make an appointment, you drag yourself and maybe your kids to the office, and keep your fingers crossed that it’s quick and uneventful. Necessary, maybe, but not enjoyable and certainly not an event to look forward to.
At Silver Leaf Dentistry, we believe that dentistry does not have to be cold, impersonal, and unpleasant. We’ve made an effort to create a practice that provides top-notch clinical care, but with an equal emphasis on the experience of our patients.
We are as comfortable and skilled with children as we are with adults. For a different sort of checkup — one that’s part dentistry and part spa, and one that will teach your kids to love visiting the dentist — call Silver Leaf Dentistry of Longmont, CO at 720-504-2539.
Your Child’s First Visit Is a “Happy Visit”
Dental anxiety is a widespread problem in the United States, and one that causes millions of people to avoid necessary dental care. While the causes behind it are varied and complicated, it often starts with negative experiences in childhood. A bad or painful dental appointment early in life can create fears that last long into adulthood.
At Silver Leaf Dentistry, we understand the importance of these first visits and their role in creating a foundation for lifelong dental health.
We know how to talk to kids and make them laugh. Youngsters who are first-time patients get a “happy visit,” where they can tour the office and see what we do. Our waiting room has a special kids’ area with toys and balloons. While their teeth are being cleaned and examined, kids can watch cartoons on our ceiling-mounted TVs with wireless headphones — a nice distraction from what’s going on in their mouths.
A Comfortable Cleaning & Exam
It starts in our soothingly decorated, beautifully furnished waiting room. Your kids can entertain themselves in the children’s area, you can settle into one of our soft upholstered chairs. Perhaps you’ll want to grab a complimentary beverage or bite to eat from our snack bar. We are a paperless office: if you have forms to fill out, you will do so on one of our iPads.
When it’s time for you to settle into the dentist’s chair, we will make sure you are completely comfortable and cozy. We can help you settle in with a pillow and blanket if you’d like.
We are big believers in dental technology, which enables us to provide faster, more precise, and less invasive care. We have ultrasonic scalers for removing plaque and tartar from your teeth, and use digital X-rays. These expose you to far less radiation than film X-rays, and the enlargeable images appear go straight to the computer. We can even show them to you on a 42-inch HD screen so you can see clearly what’s going on in your mouth.
We also have a state-of-the-art digital intraoral camera that enables us (and you) to view detailed pictures of the inside of your mouth.
Additional Preventive Services
Custom Athletic Mouthguards
If you or your child is active in sports or other activities that could result in an injury to the mouth, an athletic mouthguard is a simple way to protect smiles. Our mouthguards are custom made from impressions of the patient’s teeth, so they fit precisely and are comfortable to wear.
Sealants have been shown to significantly reduce the likelihood of tooth decay in children, though they may be used for adults as well. A sealant is a plastic coating that’s painted over the chewing surfaces of the back molars in a simple and painless process. It protects the enamel from harmful bacterial acids.
Fluoride is a mineral that is essential for strong, decay-resistant enamel. We offer fluoride treatments and varnishes to ensure you get the fluoride you need.
Emphasis on Patient Education
At Silver Leaf Dentistry, we want our patients to be educated and informed about every aspect of their care. When you make the decision to go ahead with a recommended procedure, we want you to be fully confident in your decision.
If we encounter issues that require further care, Dr. Wallin will thoroughly explain them and possible solutions to you in terms you can understand. He show you easy-to-understand digital animations on one of our iPads.
He will then create a treatment plan with a clear list of priorities.
